Trojans Tame the Tigers

The Daphne fans packed Bay Minette to watch the Trojans play the Tigers Friday night. As most of you know the Tigers have beaten the Trojans more than any other school in the region, but tonight was not going to be one of those times. The Daphne Trojans didn’t take much time to show they were ready to play football. The first play was a 22 yd run by #4 T.J Yeldon and 3 minutes later the Trojans were on the board 7-0.

The Tiger’s had a tough time getting any thing started against the Trojans. Our defense set the tone on the Tiger’s first possession by pushing the Tigers to negative yardage and finishing with a blocked punt for a touchdown adding to the scoreboard 14-0 with a Brandon Roberts extra point.

Russ Mosley did a great job with ball delivery to the receivers, #1 Israel Lamprakes, #6 Tyrell Holloway (RB), and #8 Justin Jackson who took it to the next level with their receptions and yards after the catch. By the end of the first half Trojans were up 35-0.
The whole team played an outstanding game on both sides of the ball. The defensive line was strong with stopping the Tigers behind the line scrimmage and applying pressure to the quarterback. The special teams had a run back by #5 Torren McGaster for a touchdown adding to the final score 42-0.

The Trojans will enjoy this victory for about 24 hours before starting practice this weekend to prepare for Foley.  The Trojans will host Foley next Friday at 7:00pm and with both teams opening the season 2-0 this game should be exciting to the last second.

And a big THANKS to all the Daphne Fans for your SUPPORT …LOUD, PROUD and PUPLE!

Trojans Pre Season Looks Strong!!!

The football season is upon us and the Daphne Trojans are starting to put some final details into place. This year the team has a roster of 81 players with 27 of them returning seniors and 18 returning juniors.

Last Friday’s jamboree against Davidson definitely showed positive signs of the unity and strength a team of experienced returning players can have and their ability to control the field. Although official scores are not kept in this type of game, the end result did have the Trojans victorious over the Warriors.

The Trojan’s have worked hard during the off season with improvements to their strength training, endurance and speed workouts. Also, during the off season there were some personnel changes made to the coaching staff, and with that said, we would like to welcome Coach Sessions on board. All the coaches’ bios should be posted this week so you can learn more about Coach Session in his post.

Next week will be the start of the official 2010 season with the Daphne Trojans traveling to Bryant for a 7pm game. Most of us will be out there loud, proud and purple supporting our Trojans in their first game of the season. If you can’t make it, then we’ll keep you updated on the score via the Trojan text system. So if you haven’t signed up to receive text message yet…sign-up today on the homepage.

See you at the game….GO TROJANS!

7 Ways to Deal With Heat at Practice

Writer:
Rob Smith- SurefireSoccer.com

When I was a young player rising through the ranks, my coaches impressed upon me the need to be aggressive, both physically and mentally. This helped me not only improve my soccer abilities but also helped me in various aspects of my life. Looking back, I believe some of my coaches were wrong on one item in particular.

I was taught that being tough meant I should mentally block out weather conditions around me, including extreme heat. I'd often hear "play through it" and "it will make you stronger" from well-meaning soccer training coaches. I now think that during extreme hot days we should have had lighter practices instead of heavier ones.

Some of college greatest coaches recruit our players..

"Some of college greatest coaches recruit our players because they know we have quality kids, quality parents, a quality school, quality coaches and a quality communtiy to live in" says Coach Vic.

Gene Chizik, Urban Meyer, Les Miles and Nick Saban are just a few of the college coaches who love talking about the Daphne Trojans.
