QC Minutes August 3 2010

2010 DAPHNE QUARTERBACK CLUB
August 3, 2010 MINUTES
Welcome:
President Paul Deterding opened the meeting and welcomed everyone to tonight’s meeting.

Coach Update:
Coach Vickery indicated the excitement is spreading about Daphne Football this 2010 season. He was grateful for parents doing all jobs to support the kids from field prep to serving breakfast to the kids and many other ways they are encouraging the team.
He reminded the parents to support vocally the team and get involved as school for the kids will have graduated before we know it. The summer programs are officially over and football practice has begun.
Middle School practice starts on Thursday and freshman began on Monday with the support of (4) assistant coaches.    Coach McNair and his assistants will be working with the middle school teams and Coach Todd will head up the freshman team. The 7th graders are going to be participating with City Recreation league but will be supported with equipment and coach mentoring.
Parents are asked to participate in concessions in (2) home games per year. We want you to sign up for times when your kids are not playing. If possible, we would like parents to work the Freshman and JV games concessions as unable to change out between games easily.
Picture day has been changed to August 14th.   A parent work day to prepare the stadium will be this Saturday, August 7th at 7a.m. Cheerleaders are doing photos also on Saturday.
Coach Vickery reminded parents to make sure the boys are hydrated. Helmets and shorts practice through Wed. but pads begin on Thursday. 5pm scrimmage with no morning practice on this Friday. Monday and Tuesday will be morning practices just as this week. Coaches need insurance paperwork completed immediately by parents and returned or they will be unable to practice on Thursday.
Coaches will handle fund returns from lift-a-thon but coupon book sales to quarterback club. The coaches are encouraging the boys to be successful in all things from practice, class and community service.

They are currently at camp and believe likely will win the camp. They are looking great and their conditioning has really paid off.

Program Report:
We need to really push for last minute business ads and student sales. The deadline for sales is August 13th for ad sales. We are asking you to really contact businesses and try to sell ads ASAP.

Coach Vickery Closing:
Watermelon run will be on the August 12th. The Senior Party is coming up and we need a volunteer of a club house. Coach Vickery introduced Coach David McNair as the middle school coach. He is engaged to Daphne graduate and is excited about being in the community. The practice begins on Thursday for the 8th grade middle school students.
Coach is asking the students to surround themselves with positive adults who encourage them, support them and mentor them well. The players need to hear and see our care and support of them. We also want to support the cheerleaders, dance team, band and all
Varsity parents will have mandatory meeting next week. We must attend and be educated as to the risk and rules associated with the game. Bryan Metz is hydrating the players with Gatorade, water, ice baths. DO NOT allow the students to drink energy drinks as risk for their health.

Closing:
Coach McNair is going to get parents of middle school players and cheerleaders involved in the club. We are seeking full participation.
We are thankful for the continued support of the club and people getting involved from dance team and new parents. Thursday morning at the Beach Club will be the finals competition for the cheerleaders.   We are seeking support of the girls in their efforts on Thursday.
