Quarterback Minutes 11/9/10
2010 DAPHNE QUARTERBACK CLUB
November 9, 2010 MINUTES
Welcome:
The meeting was called to order by President Paul Deterding. He welcomed the supporters and thanked them for their continued support this deep into the season. He turned the meeting over to Coach Glen Vickery for and update.
Coach Update:
Coach Vickery welcomed Coach Mike Vickery as the receiver coach for the team. Coach Mike Vickery introduced our wide receivers to the group including: Dalis Houston, Jonathan Parslow, Ryan Olson Jacob Olmstead, Blakely Douglas, Serge Kolotov, David Phillips, Jonathan McCaster, Adam Daniels, Horace Johnson, Cartels Young, Chris Sain, Justin Jackson and Isreal Lamprakes. Our kicker Brandon Roberts was introduced as well. Coach Mike Vickery expressed his joy and excitement at the level of talent and effort put in by the wide receivers this season. He thanked the players for the hard work and their contribution to getting the team to a perfect regular season and 2nd round of playoffs as we move toward a state championship.
Both Coaches discussed the upcoming playoff game with Foley. We anticipate a hard fought battle between the teams. We believe we have some additional offensive weapons since our last time facing the Foley Lions and believe these options will increase our probability of success.
Coach Mike Vickery discussed his effort with other coaches to monitor the academic records of the players who have an interest in pursuing college play at a Division 1 school. He discussed the NCAA rules which are different somewhat from basic academic requirements for graduation. He makes an effort to back up the school counselors to make sure the players have their requirements in order. He discussed other options available to students who have some challenges academically at Junior Colleges and D2 schools which have different criteria for student athletes’. Coach Mike Vickery indicated that he is available to assist any student or parent as they prepare for a successful future at the next level.
Coach Mike Vickery is working hard to promote our players to colleges for the next level of play. He indicates some 200 DVDs have been mailed out to various schools in the last weeks to give the best exposure of our Daphne players to colleges. Additionally, we have film available on the Daphne Football website at www.daphnefootball.comfor secured access by scouts on demand.
It was announced that while school is out on Thursday, November 11th, the players will report for practice at 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Also Coach Vickery talked about the 15 freshman players were brought up and have added much to the practices with their contribution. They have shown a very high level of commitment to the team. They have been a welcomed addition over the past few weeks.
Cheerleading Update:
The cheerleaders were ready for their competition at Faulkner State on Saturday but the competition was cancelled and will be rescheduled in December. At this time we are unsure if the scheduling conflicts can be worked out for attendance in December. Additional information will be forthcoming on that issue. It was a disappointment to the cheerleaders who had worked very hard and were completely ready to compete.
The cheerleaders are ready for the community pep rally on Thursday and look to leading the event. Unfortunately, our band will be unavailable due to a scheduling conflict.
Dance Team:
President Paul Deterding expressed to the dance team and parents gratitude for their incredible effort in support of the fundraising for the quarterback club this year. They have come out in a big way for every opportunity and for that the club is grateful.
Dance Team member Brittany Baker, in the early part of the year, presented a power point presentation and interview with IMIA in an effort to gain their support for the DHS Quarterback Club this year. As a result of her great effort, the business has provided a $5000 donation to the club. Again we are thankful for the effort made and benefit to the organization.
Upcoming Events:
Community Pep Rally will be held at Jubilee Center at 6:00 pm on Thursday. The students, supports and community are invited to come out and show their spirit for the team.
Concessions:
We are so grateful for the volunteers who continue to show up week after week. We do need some additional assistance for this Friday, November 12th game and an additional playoff youth football session on Saturday, November 13th at Trione Park.
A business in the community, Just Kiddin Around Daycare, provided volunteers for our concession stand last Friday and again this coming Friday to support the team. The support of this local business was invaluable and we greatly appreciate their willingness to set forward when called upon.
The Youth Football event for concessions was good on Saturday. The parent volunteers were wonderful and we acknowledge the contribution of some students including Rob Randolph, Josh Johnson and Jacob Olmstead. Thank you to our students for their assistance.
President Comments:
We are looking forward to continued wins though out the playoff to the State Championship in Auburn. We ask for supporters to be spirited, encouraging to our players and continue to come out in big numbers at all games. He thanked everyone for continued commitment levels deep into the season.
Coach Vickery Closing:
Coach Vickery expressed much gratitude to the faithful supports for all the fundraising, concession work, meals, and everything that has been done to assist the players in getting to this point. He asked for continued support and Daphne Spirit as we pursue the ultimately goal of a State Championship team 2010.
